INSIGHT
FGM is often misrepresented as a religious practice. In reality, it is violence and control over women and girls. This misconception supports silence, stigma, and ongoing harm.
RESPONSE
I developed a visual concept focused on enforced silence. Lines drawn across women’s mouths reference the stitching involved in FGM and signal both physical trauma and social suppression. The work confronts narratives that normalise or legitimise FGM.
